Who do you believe?

Today’s SunSentinel article about the Plantation General Hospital’s move to Nova Southeastern University has been approved. The article goes on to quote Councilman Bob Levy that the city aggressively tried to stop the move but yet in an archived SunSentinel article from December 6, 2013 says:

The Nova proposal had the support of many political leaders, including county commissioners David Kiar and Stacy Ritter, State Reps. Katie Edwards and Jim Waldman, and the mayors of Davie, Coral Springs, Dania Beach, Margate, Parkland, Plantation, Pompano Beach and Cooper City.

Was personally told by Police Chief Howard Harrison at a City Council meeting that he supported the plan because with the limited amount of psychiatric beds (5) at the Plantation General Hospital, any time an individual was Baker Acted (A Baker Act is a means of providing individuals with emergency services and temporary detention for mental health evaluation and treatment when required for 72 hours, either on a voluntary or an involuntary basis.) his officers had to drive to either Miami-Dade or West Palm Beach and he felt the need for additional psychiatric space in the City of Plantation!

Apparently the City of Plantation is not discussing that talks have been made to transform the Plantation General Hospital into a psychiatric facility. The property is already completely secured by walls and fencing surrounding the property.

“Public records show the hospital paid almost $62,000 in property taxes to the city for 2015.” All of the City of Plantation tax payers will have to make up the loss!

Just another example of if you live on the east side of the Florida Turnpike in the City of Plantation, the City of Plantation does not equally represent residents compared to the west side!
