Chris grew up in Fort Lauderdale, and has been a resident of the City of Plantation for over 24 years. Chris and Kim Zimmerman have been married for 20 years and they have 3 children who have been born and raised here in Plantation. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. Chris received his Architect License in 1986 and his Certified General Contractors License in 1987. His career focuses on municipal architecture, starting in 1986, with a 10 year term as a Senior Architect with the City of Fort Lauderdale. His work at the City provided two award winning buildings for the City of Fort Lauderdale. Working as a staff architect in the City provided Chris with a deep understanding of City Government as a process.
Both Chris and Kim have continued to invest in the City of Plantation with the purchase of their office building complex almost eight years ago. Chris has served for the last 2 years on the Gateway Seven Advisory Board and also served for two years as a member of the City’s Comprehensive Planning Board (1997 ‐ 99). He is concerned and wants to assure that the Gateway Seven District will continue to grow and develop positively. Also Chris was elected as Vice President/President Elect of the Fort Lauderdale American Institute of Architects.
Chris is currently the President of CPZ Architects, Inc., a ten person Architectural Firm, located in the Gateway Seven District of Plantation. The office was opened 10 years ago and is still in the same location, as a small business in the City of Plantation. The firm specializes in Governmental and Municipal Architecture throughout South Florida. They have completed projects for the Cities of Plantation, Hollywood, Deerfield, Miramar, Sunrise, Coral Springs, Miami Gardens and the Town of Davie.
Chris is an Eagle Scout and has been active in the Boy Scouts of America for the last 43 years, serving in almost every capacity from; Scoutmaster of Plantation Troop 111 and the Fort Lauderdale Troop 311, to the South Florida Council Training Scoutmaster, to the member of the Council Properties Committee.
